What Are the Applications of Melt-Blown Polypropylene?

Meltblown fabric is mainly made of polypropylene, with fiber diameter ranging from 1 to 5 microns. The ultra-fine fibers with unique capillary structure increase the number and surface area of fibers per unit area, making the meltblown fabric have good filtration, shielding, insulation and oil absorption properties. It can be used in air and liquid filtering materials, isolation materials, absorbent materials, mask materials, thermal insulation materials and wiping cloths, etc.


Scope of application of meltblown polypropylene


The production process of meltblown polypropylene mainly includes: melt preparation; filtration; metering; extrusion of melt from spinneret holes; stretching and cooling of melt fine flow; web forming.


Medical and health fabrics: surgical gowns, protective clothing, disinfection package fabrics, masks, diapers, sanitary napkins, etc. Home decoration fabrics: wall covering fabrics, tablecloths, bed sheets, bed covers, etc. Clothing fabrics: linings, fusible interlinings, batting, shaping cotton, various synthetic leather backing fabrics, etc. Industrial fabrics: filtering materials, insulation materials, cement packaging bags, geotextiles, wrapping fabrics, etc. Agricultural fabrics: crop protection fabrics, nursery fabrics, irrigation fabrics, thermal insulation curtains, etc. Other: space cotton, thermal insulation and sound insulation materials, oil absorption felt, cigarette filter mouthpieces, tea bags, etc. The filtering material of meltblown polypropylene is composed of polypropylene ultra-fine fibers randomly bonded together. It has a neat appearance, softness, and a fiber fineness of 0.5-1.0μm. The random distribution of fibers provides more opportunities for thermal bonding between fibers, so that the meltblown gas filtering material has larger surface area and higher porosity (≥75%). After high-pressure electrostatic filtration, the product has the characteristics of low resistance, high efficiency, and high dust holding capacity.


Uses of meltblown polypropylene products


As meltblown polypropylene is mainly made of polypropylene, it is a good mask material. In large, medium and small medical institutions, in disaster areas affected by earthquakes, floods, etc., during the high incidence of SARS, avian influenza, and H1N1 virus, meltblown filter paper plays an irreplaceable role with its strong filtration performance. Meltblown nonwoven fabrics are mainly used for filtering materials, medical and health materials, environmental protection materials, clothing materials, battery diaphragm materials, and wiping materials. Among them, filtering materials are the most widely used, followed by meltblown polypropylene as medical and health materials, environmental protection materials, clothing materials, battery diaphragm materials, and wiping materials, etc.
